On Saturday, Kanye West released his latest line of Nike Air Yeezy 2 sneakers—designed by the rapper/aspiring fashion icon himself.

While the shoes retailed for $245, only somewhere between 3,000 and 5,000 pairs of the limited edition sneakers became available to the public.

This caused some fans (and business-savvy sneakerheads who will re-sell the coveted kicks) to stand in line for up to a week before the shoe's release.

One college student in Detroit, who was fourth in line at his local Nike store, went so far as to buy someone's spot in line for $400 to ensure he would be able to get the show in his size.

Another New Yorker camped out for a full week and even bought a guest pass at a nearby health club so he could go take quick showers every morning and not lose his spot in line.

But that's nothing compared to the eBay auction, where one pair eventually sold for a whopping $90,300 on Wednesday.

No word on who the wealthy buyer was, but it probably wasn't the wisest investment as most pairs are currently being listed on eBay for between $2,000-$7,000.

So what's all the fuss about?

Kim Kardashian Kanye WestOther than the fact that West is the only non-athlete to ever design a shoe for Nike, these high-class sneakers feature anaconda-textured leather, a spiked back end, and glow-in-the-dark soles with a signature front strap.

The Air Yeezy 2 is the second installment, and slimmer version, of the 2009 Air Yeezy. According to Nike's website, the design was inspired by classic 1980s basketball shoes and can be purchased in either black/solar red or platinum.

But one person who didn't have to wait in line or shell out tons of cash for the shoes is West's new girlfriend, Kim Kardashian.

The usually high-heel clad Kardashian tweeted a photo of herself yesterday in the coveted sneakers, writing "His & Hers! #AirYeezys.”

Watch below to hear why there was such hysteria over West's latest line.
