French designer Sonia Rykiel has died on Thursday, aged 86.
"My mother died last night in Paris, at her home at 5 a.m. as a result of Parkinson's disease," the designer's daughter, Nathalie, said, French newspaper, Le Parisien, reports.
Rykiel had been suffering from Parkinson's disease for almost 20 years.
In 2009, Rykiel had been awarded the Legion d'Honneur, in recognition of her 40-year career.
The designer had launched her fashion house in 1968 in Paris. With her daughter, Rykiel developed a real fashion and design empire that churns out over €80 million in revenue every year.
In 2010, Rykiel had teamed up with Swedish clothing giant Hennes & Mauritz (H&M) to launch a line of lingerie, which was hugely successful.
