MVMT watchesHere at Insider Picks, we love watches, especially those made with the customer in mind. In a market that can feel very exclusive, especially to the novice buyer, we like to seek out brands that are looking to make watches accessible to the casual consumer.

Watches can be complex, but classic, functional looks never go out of style. If a watch looks sharp and can tell the time, that’s a good place to start.

MVMT is one such company that seeks to keep watches simple and affordable while still making a statement with their look.

Founded in 2013 by Jake Kassan and Kramer LaPlante after they dropped out of college to pursue their passion, MVMT started after the duo recognized a weakness in the market that they thought they could best. "There’s plenty of giant watch brands, but their business models are stuck in the age of wholesale," Kassan told me in a recent interview. "Wholesale is dying, it’s capital intensive and takes years to scale."

Instead of going wholesale, MVMT focused on a direct-to-consumer model with watches that were big on affordablity and style. Through fan support and a huge level of engagement on social media, MVMT became the second-most funded fashion brand through Indiegogo in 2013. In its first year, the company generated over $1 million in revenue, a figure Kassan credits mostly to their branding through different social channels. "We made sure to produce great content and the rest really came organically. We found people hashtagging us, tagging friends, and we received hundreds of DMs. It was really a viral effect from our point of view."

Since then, MVMT has only grown. The company has sold over 500,000 watches in just three years, generated over $30 million in revenue in 2015, and hopes to surpass $50 million this year.

Below we're highlighting some of our favorite styles MVMT has to offer. Check them out and see if one is right for you. If you're in the market for a new watch, you could save yourself a couple hundred bucks.
