An attractive timepiece is an essential part of the modern gentleman's style, whether you’re dressed for a busy day of work or a weekend of leisure and levity.
Not only functional, a nice watch gives a certain air of importance to the wearer. It's a public statement to the universe that time is valuable to you — you might have places to be. For these reasons, watches always make a great gift to give during the holiday season.
But with expensive name brands like Rolex receiving the majority of the attention, watches can be a tough gift to give — not everyone has $5,000 to invest in a timepiece.
Thankfully, you don’t have to. There are tons of great options available at more affordable prices.
We recently rounded up some of our favorite watches available for less than $300 and less than $100. But if you're looking for something a bit more top-shelf or nothing their particularly caught your eye, below we’ve collected some of the best pieces you can buy for less than $500. This list is a great place to start your search for a new timepiece.

Frederique Constant

If you're looking for something with a bit more elegance, this timepiece from Frederique Constant is worth a look. With its Roman numerals and black-on-white color scheme, it's a simple and safe bet to go with your look. The subdial above six o'clock serves as a second hand, adding a bit of character.
Frederique Constant Classics Slim Line Silver Dial Watch, $475, available at Jomashop.
Movado

This minimalist display is familiar to anyone who's seen Movado watches in the past. I'm a big fan of this look; it's sharp and clean, and looks like it's straight from a Bond film and might even come with some hidden gadgets that Q will tell you about later in the movie.
Movado Stainless Steel Black Museum Dial Watch, $384.99, available at Jomashop.
Tsovet

This Tsovet draws me in with its unique face and beautiful leather strap. It also comes with a chronograph function with subdials displaying 30-minute and 60-second intervals, if you're interested in that. Mostly, the color scheme and display of this timepiece give it a modern look that I find attractive.
Tsovet SVT-DE 40 Watch, $424.95, available at Amazon.
